Not only did Ray Wersching look like my father's accountant Bill Zunner but check out the back of his card. Majored in Accounting! He was married as well. Dad was Mr. Zunner flying to the Bay Area every Sunday to kick for the 49ers?
Collecting cards as a kid was a passion. I was on a mission! I was saving paper route money, reading Beckett, trading peers and hawking down inserts like a private investigator. I was damn good too. By the the age of 14 I had amassed a large collection of rookies, specialty cards and autographs.
A great first step towards financial independence. If times ever got tough, I thought, I'd always have my football cards to fall back on. Well life's a lot easier when you're twelve.
15+ years later I've dug them out of my closet. I could barely pay a months rent with all this neatly trimmed cardboard. Let's take a look at what I got.
